Instructions On Using This Site.
These instructions are intended to be a "starter" guide, you will probably learn a lot
more about all the utilities within the site by simply using it. Any technical questions,
please contact the site supervisor.
EMAIL
To use the email you need to have been given an email address (i.e robin@polland.co.uk),
If you do not have an email address you may request one by filling in the "contact us"
feedback form.
You can request an email address in the for "anyone@polland.co.uk" (where anyone is
your choice of name)
Once you have a user name and you have been assigned a password you can log into
your email account from any internet connected computer by going to our home page
at polland.co.uk and clicking on the "email" tab.
Your "username is your whole email addressbin@polland.co.uk)
Your password is cASe sENsiTivE so only use Capitals if there are any.
Accessing your email in this way is called "Webmail"
You may if preferred collect your email using Microsoft Outlook or similar email client, if
you do, the settings you need to know are:
SMTP/Outgoing mail server: mail.polland.co.uk
POP3/Incoming mail server: mail.polland.co.uk
Your ISP may not allow you to have your own SMTP mail server thus you may have to
use theirs ie smtp.orangehome.co.uk ( for customers who have Orange as their ISP)
If in doubt, check the "help" section on your ISP home page and look for
"Outlook Mail Settings" or similar
If you have problems contact us using the "Contact Us" feedback form on the left
FAMILY TREE
1. You will need a "username" and "password" to access the tree
If you require a "username" and "password" please use the "Contact Us" link on the
left hand column, stating your name and how you are connected to the tree,
the Site Supervisor will then issue the neccessary access details.
2. Once issued with the username/password detail, please keep them safe, as identity
theft, scamming and credit card fraud are serious concerns, thus all data within the site
needs to be kept private. The site supervisor will frequently change the username &
password & you will be automatically informed of this each time it is changed.
3. On logging into the site you will be presented with the Tree Index, which lists all the
current names listed within the tree.
4. Click on any name to get more information and to be able to view other elements of
the site including "generations" and "ancestor" views, ( available from the "View"
menu on the left hand side of the screen ).
5. You will either have a "read only" password for the site, or an "editor" password.
The site supervisor will tell you what kind of access you have been granted.
If you have an "editor" password, you will be able to add & change data to the site.
6. If you wish to add other members of the tree to the site, it is much preferable to
start by adding them as a relation to existing members of the tree, rather than using
the "create new record" function, but if you cannot find any member to add to
(unlikely ) then please do use the "create new record" function, since your new "tree"
can be joined at a later date.
Remember that when adding Wifes/Mothers etc., always use the person's maiden name
so that their family ancestors can be added logically.
6. If you "upload" photographs, please keep them as small as possible, and "upload"
using photos of resolution of 400 X 300 or less. ( the "Upload Portrait" facility is in
"PortraitFormat" thus the height is greater than the width, so for optimum display,
any photo uploaded should be 300 X 400 ). Most photo editing software allows you
to change both the resolution and format.

6. You can request a free polland.co.uk E-Mail to use, which is a never changing,
highly personalised way to E-Mail and of course you can use your normal E-Mail
client ( e.g. Microsoft Outlook ) to collect your mail, PLUS you can also use the
"Webmail" facility ( use from the menu on the home page ) to check your E-Mail from
any internet connected computer on the planet ! COOL !!!!!!!!!
PHOTOGALLERY
Anyone can view photographs in the photogallery, except the folder designated USERS ONLY
If you wish to do any of the following you will need to Register first - this can be done
quickly and easily from the Photogallery Homepage and requires a valid email address
so that we may authenticate your details once registered you can:
